The politicians must do what the people demand!

We apparently live in a democratic society yet we have politicians' own views seemingly overriding that of the british public and disregarding sensitive issues for what can only be deemed as 'bottling it'. This cannot be right as they are put there for a reason - to be the VOICE of the British public!
This being the case if a any petition reaches 1 million plus signatures, there should not only be debate in the house of commons but if the proposal is thrown out, there should be an explanation published from each and every MP that voted against the motion.
