Bring back National Service

Responsible department: Department for Business, Innovation and Skills

To introduce a form of National Service for school leavers of at least a year's duration to take place from the moment they leave school/ 6th form college and before they go to permanent jobs and/or further education, e.g., university.

Emphasis initially to be community based but concentrating in later stages on possible future carriers, including military.

May include spells away from home setting.

Government to also assist in placement in civilian jobs at end of National Service.
